Volunteerism is truly a basic and natural expression of the human experience, towards that greater calling, that inner desire to be better, to give hope, to share love, joy and peace. It’s almost always towards a better human existence. It is about people’s essential need to contribute in their societies, to feel that they matter to others. It is not strange, that we all need to feel a sense of belonging, a sense of worth, value and purpose. Volunteerism gives us a true undeniable sense of fulfillment.

Volunteerism according to the Oxford Online English Dictionary (2016) is defined as: “the use or involvement of volunteer labour, especially in community services.” The volunteer, a person who voluntarily offers himself or herself for a service or undertaking, this person performs their service willingly and without pay, all towards a goal, and objective and shared interest.

KV Lifeline Foundation strongly believes that the social relationships integral to volunteer work are critical to individual and community well-being. The ethos of volunteerism is infused with values including solidarity, partnership, mutual trust, belonging and empowerment, all of which contribute significantly to the vital ‘esse’ of life.
